Course Orientation/Introduction Module

Pittsburg State Faculty Course Design Workshop


Getting your students off to a good start is essential for any course, but especially in an online or hybrid class. Workshop participants will review how to create an introductory module that includes items necessary to meet all of QM standard 1, and standards 6.3, 6.4, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 8.1. Specific items to be covered include:

  • Course polices that should be included
    • Netiquette
    • Communication guidelines
    • Response time for graded assignments
    • Late work policy
  • Methods to incorporate the PSU syllabus supplement into your online class
  • Instructor and student introductions
  • Identify content that might require possible accommodations and how to obtain
  • Using a Syllabus quiz and/or an Online Course Contract
  • Specifying required technical skills and course prerequisites.
  • Introduction “templates” will be shared with attendees
