The focus of this course is on improving the participants' conferencing conversation skills and strategies with teachers. The goal of the conversations is to improve classroom teachers' abilities to reflect, learn and apply insights to their own teaching lessons and instructional deliveries, all aimed at improvement of the teaching and learning in their classrooms. Participants will be able to identify the value of meaningful professional conversations about teaching and learning by helping teachers reflect on their teaching; expand their repertoire of questioning skills under the four phases of teacher's planning, teaching, reflecting and analyzing of lessons resulting in reflective, self-directed learning; expand their repertoire of responding and empowering communication skills and strategies that promote reflective, self-directed learning as well as teacher choice; and learn how to create 'conference lesson plans'- intent of content of messages, content of the messages and speaking language to achieve the intended messages.

Presenter(s)


Jim Knight, Senior Partner of ICG, is a research associate at the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning. He has spent more than a decade studying instructional coaching, writing several books on the topic. Jim’s articles on instructional coaching have been included in publications such as The Journal of Staff Development, Principal Leadership, The School Administrator, and Teachers Teaching Teachers. Jim has presented and consulted in more than 40 states, most Canadian provinces, and around the world. He has also won several university teaching, innovation, and service awards.

Fees

Free of charge for CASE member districts and staff (Districts 15, 16, 41, 44, 87, 89, 93).
$200 for the training for all other registrants. Materials are included unless otherwise noted.

About Us

The Cooperative Association for Special Education (CASE) is a joint agreement between Marquardt School District 15, Queen Bee School District 16, Glen Ellyn School District 41, Lombard Elementary School District 44, Glenbard Township High School District 87, Community Consolidated School District 89 and Community Consolidated School District 93 in DuPage County. CASE provides varied supports so that each member district can offer a complete range of services to students with special needs between the ages of 3 and 22 years.
