Using the Gradebook in Moodle

The Gradebook in Moodle can help you organize and manage assessment information about the students in your course. Grades can be calculated, aggregated, and displayed in different ways, and allows for various grading strategies. The Gradebook is powerful and has many settings to accomplish what you want. This workshop is designed to guide participants through typical use cases. Instructor-led demonstration and lecture. Participants will be encouraged to participate hands-on and apply the skills on their Moodle course(s) during the workshop. There will be time to ask questions. A handout will be provided.

 

 


Session Outcomes

At the completion of this productivity workshop, participants will be able to:

 

  • Set up use a basic Gradebook in Moodle

  • Set up grading schemas, categories and weighting

  • Export the Gradebook to Excel for review and backup

Faculty and Staff with Moodle support roles


Workshop Length

90 minutes: 1 hour plus additional half hour for open Q & A

Topics include:

 

  • Viewing the Gradebook

  • Grade visibility - who can see grades, and when

  • Grade rubrics

  • Blind Grading

  • Grade configuration (Categories, Weighting and Extra Credit)

  • Import/export options - working with grades outside Moodle.
