Classes: Grades K-3

As they grow, children need to stretch their imaginations. Did you know that between the ages of 6 and 8 your child‘s physical, social, and mental skills are developing at a wildfire pace? Our classes are designed to cultivate this stage of the childhood experience: The strengthening sense of self and community. We will also provide practice at developing skills in cooperation and listening.


Fall 10-week session begins on Monday, September 8th, 2014 and concludes on Sunday, November 16th, 2014.

Winter 8-week session begins on Monday, January 5, 2015 and concludes on Sunday, March 1st, 2015

Acting 101 - AP.1 (Grades 1-3) - 9/8/2014 5:30 PM - 11/11/2014 6:30 PM
One of the most important classes a young performer can take! Journey with ATMTC through the process of acting: a professional teaching artist will guide participants using creative drama techniques through the basics of acting, improvisation, and character development. The class culminates in an informal presentation of the characters and stories the class created during the semester. No pre-requisite is required.

Broadway Prep - AP.1 (Grades 1-3) - 9/11/2014 5:30 PM - 11/13/2014 6:30 PM
Broadway Prep, the second-level continuation course of Sing, Dance, Act!, delves further into the craft of musical theater performance by teaching students to convey emotion and character in song, scene and movement. Working on developing these skills individually and as an ensemble, students will learn to analyze scripts and songs for performance, learn correct terminology, and illustrate an understanding of musical theater basics. Pre-requisite of Sing, Dance, Act! is required, or by instructor permission.

No audition required This class culminates in an informal performance that is guided by literature and created by our students. Participants will join Alice, the Mad Hatter, and the White Rabbit on a journey through Wonderland as they explore the story, its characters, plot line and sequence; working together to create their own improvised theater piece!

Musical Theater Dance AP.1 (Grades K-2) - 9/8/2014 4:30 PM - 11/10/2014 5:30 PM
Musical Theater Dance I is a beginning dance course designed to introduce your young dancer to the dance moves and terminology used in professional musical theater. Under the direction of the instructor, students will learn proper dance terminology, develop dance etiquette, and increase their body awareness as they learn the basics of ballet, jazz, and tap dance. No pre-requisite or placement is required for this course. (Advancement level option after two semesters, or by instructor permission: Musical Theater Dance II.) **Students who take both the Fall and Winter sessions concurrently between September-March may participate in the Spring ATMTC Academy Dance Recital.
Musical Theater Dance AP.2 (Grades 1-3) - 9/13/2014 11:00 AM - 11/15/2014 12:00 PM
Musical Theater Dance II the next step in a student’s dance training and, delves further into the crafts of ballet, jazz, and tap by learning the dance basics and terminology used in musical theater and the auditioning process. Under the guidance of their instructor, students will increase their understanding of dance technique, improve their body awareness, and learn to quickly pick up new dance sequences. Pre-requisite of Musical Theater Dance I is required, or by instructor permission. **Students who take both the Fall and Winter sessions concurrently between September-March may participate in the Spring ATMTC Academy Dance Recital.

Singing for the Stage - AP.1 (Grades K-3) - 9/9/2014 4:30 PM - 11/11/2014 5:30 PM
This introductory vocal course teaches young students the fundamentals of healthy singing and musicianship. Through vocal exercises and musical theater songs, students will work on tone production, breath support, and basic music theory.
Student Production: Magic Tree House: Dinosaurs Before Dark: KIDS - 1/5/2015 4:00 PM - 2/28/2015 6:00 PM

** No Audition Required While exploring one afternoon, Jack and Annie discover a tree house full of books: Jack looks through a book about dinosaurs and wishes he could see a real one. Suddenly the wind begins to blow and the tree house starts to spin wildly. When it finally stops, Jack and Annie open their eyes to find they have been transported back to the time of the dinosaurs! Rehearsals and Performances are held at Adventure Theatre MTC in Glen Echo Park, 7300 MacArthur Blvd; Glen Echo, MD Rehearsals will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-6 PM. Performance Dates: Friday, February 27 @ 7 pm and Saturday, February 28 @ 7 pm Tickets are $5.00 and seating is General Admission The show is recommended for all ages
