Classes: Grades 4-7

ATMTC Academy believes that an education in the performing arts begins with solid technique training, coupled with a variety of performing experiences. Whether you are a recreational student or a professional hopeful, ATMTC Academy offers a unique approach to musical theater and theater education through the combination of traditional musical theater and theater classes, and student productions.

Fall 2014 Semester begins on Monday, September 8th and concludes on Sunday, December 21st.

Enrollment in Dance Classes is now available on an annual basis. Enroll for the full year and save!

Acting Technique - SC.1 - 9/9/2014 4:30 PM - 12/16/2014

Students learn a variety of approaches, methods, and acting techniques with concentrated work in improvisation, character development, and scene work. No pre-requisite or placement is required for this course. (Advancement level option after two semesters, or by instructor permission: Acting Technique II.)

In Acting Technique II, students learn a variety of approaches, methods and acting techniques with concentrated work in, monologue study, stage direction, script analysis, and critique. Pre-requisite of Acting Technique I is required, or by instructor permission. (Advancement level option after two semesters, or by instructor permission: Actor’s Workshop- Available Spring15.)

Facilitated by an experienced voice teacher and musical theater professional, students will work on the skills necessary to technically and aesthetically perform musical theater repertoire. Both up-tempo and ballad songs will be chosen for students’ vocal ranges and acting abilities.

Ballet I is for the novice or beginner student. Core body strength, arms and correct turn-out based on a student’s anatomy and muscular development are emphasized at the barre. Center work is focused on the basics of adagio (slow controlled combination), preparation for pirouettes, simple turns across the floor, petit allégro and grand allégro. Before advancing to Ballet II, students must be able to execute these basic exercises. No pre-requisite or placement is required for this course.

Before advancing to Ballet III, students must be able to execute these exercises safely and correctly. Pre-requisite of Ballet I is required, or by instructor permission.

Ballet II is for the intermediate student, who possesses a strong foundation and basic vocabulary in Ballet technique. Students must audition for placement at this level. Ballet/Jazz Combo I is for the novice or beginner student. The combination course allows students to gain a fundamental knowledge of and preparation for the dance forms of both ballet and jazz. Classes consist of learning the standard placement of feet and arms, basic terminology, barre exercises, floor work and simple jazz combinations. No pre-requisite or placement is required for this course.

The Pre-Professional Program prepares committed and gifted musical theater students in grades 4-12 for college and/or a professional career. Led by a highly qualified faculty, the Pre-Professional Program curriculum provides students with inclusive training in singing, dancing, acting, and performance. ***Students must audition for acceptance to the Pre-Professional Program****

Private Voice Lesson Interest Form - 8/18/2014
Work independently with a professional vocalist and instructor. Each 30 minute session will include intensive work on vocal technique and study of repertoire suitable for the individual student. Private lessons provide individual instruction geared towards the specific goals, needs and aspirations of each student. (45 and 60 minute packages are also available) No prerequisite required. Previous music study, including completion of Intro to Voice class or Semi-Private Voice Lessons, strongly recommended. Open to students grades 4+.
Student Production: Magic Tree House: Dinosaurs Before Dark: KIDS - 1/5/2015 4:00 PM - 2/28/2015 6:00 PM
** No Audition Required While exploring one afternoon, Jack and Annie discover a tree house full of books: Jack looks through a book about dinosaurs and wishes he could see a real one. Suddenly the wind begins to blow and the tree house starts to spin wildly. When it finally stops, Jack and Annie open their eyes to find they have been transported back to the time of the dinosaurs! Rehearsals and Performances are held at Adventure Theatre MTC in Glen Echo Park, 7300 MacArthur Blvd; Glen Echo, MD Rehearsals will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-6 PM. Performance Dates: Friday, February 27 @ 7 pm and Saturday, February 28 @ 7 pm Tickets are $5.00 and seating is General Admission The show is recommended for all ages

Tap I is for the novice or beginner student. “Broadway Tap” is the chosen sub-style taught by ATMTC, which incorporates upper body and use of arms in addition to a focus on percussive rhythm and footwork. Classes emphasize the development and strengthening of basic tap technique and terminology highlighting the importance of rhythm and sound. No pre-requisite or placement is required for this course.
