MIYLT is a camp designed for 9th-12th grade youth to become impactful leaders in their schools & communities. This year’s camp will bring youth together from across the region for the opportunity to network, learn & make new friends. During the week long experience, campers will build leadership skills by discovering the wilderness, developing perspectives, experiencing service & social justice, & learning & experience different cultures through a variety of interactive simulations & trainings.

Each school/organization is required to have a mentor who will work closely with their students who are attending the Michigan Youth Leadership Training camp. As well as attend the mentor training on August 1 & August 2. At such training they will undergo simulations, understand the importance of the camp activities, receive research information about camp, be given teambuilding activities, and training and working hand and hand with their students on their Take-It-Home projects.

Connect the Pieces of the Puzzle: Common Core, Project Based Learning and 21st Century Skills by utilizing a blended learning model that combines face-to-face meetings, as well as activities in Moodle to gain a greater understanding of Project Based Learning (PBL).

Participants will learn how to model thinking about nonfiction text; teach nonfiction text features and their purposes; make nonfiction Reading Anchor Charts; make nonfiction Writing Anchor Charts; use comprehension strategies to make meaning of complex text; model how to think deeply about rigorous text; and learn to effectively teach five types of nonfiction writing. Two evening dates in the fall will be scheduled during class sessions.
