Course Description

WHAT IS IT? Teachers in Industry is a professional development opportunity for educators to learn more about local employers and community organizations through on-site visits and presentations.

WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES?

  • To highlight information about local employer needs, labor market trends, and new technologies relevant for teachers;
  • To help educators connect their classroom content to real world applications and business practices so that students are college- and career-ready; and
  • To encourage meaningful collaboration between educators and the business community.

The Career Readiness Department can reimburse schools up to $100 for substitutes used for Teachers in Industry events.CLICK HERE to complete the attached substitute reimbursement form. Then submit it to the email indicated on the form prior to the event.


Participants will meet at Kent ISD, with transportation provided to sites. Space is limited, so please only register if you are able to attend the entire day. Lunch will be provided and SCECHs are available pending approval.

Facilitator

Eric Kelliher

In his role as a Career Readiness Consultant for the Kent ISD, Eric Kelliher works with local educators to integrate career exploration, planning and thinking into instruction. From helping teachers integrate soft skills into lesson plans, to speaking to classrooms and at conferences, to running programs like Teachers in Industry, Classroom to Careers and others, Eric seeks to make career thinking an integral part of the learning experience. His prior experience includes 6 years in the classroom teaching Language Arts and Physical Education, 4 years as a K-12 Technology trainer, 3 years in Higher Education, and several years in the corporate world, first in Banking, later as a Leadership Development trainer at Meijer’s corporate headquarters.
