Reducing challenging behavior starts with understanding why it occurs and then teaching appropriate skills. This session will provide in-depth instruction for completing high-quality Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and developing function-based Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSP). Participants will explore the process for completing FBAs and review promising practice for documenting the assessment in MIPSE. Using the information derived from the FBA, participants will practice selecting PBSP strategies based on function and other relevant information uncovered during the FBA. Information will be beneficial to all staff working with students who require individualized behavior supports. This content will be especially relevant to staff who are responsible for completing FBAs and implementing PBSPs such as School Psychologists, School Social Workers, Teacher Consultants and Special Education Teachers.
