The Office of Educator Effectiveness is teaming up with Education Service Center Region 5 to host a single one-hour Focus Group Session and we invite you to send a first or second year teacher to represent your school district. The Supporting Educators section of ESSA outlines how the IDOE will support the recruitment, preparation, induction, evaluation, advancement and retention of teachers and principals in Indiana. Under the direction of the Chief Talent Officer, Dr. Scott Syverson, the IDOE Offices of Educator Effectiveness, Educator Licensing, and Educator Preparation strive to build teacher and leader capacity and effectiveness to promote equitable access to excellent educators and positively impact student achievement and growth.
Purpose: Targeted, ongoing efforts to support novice teachers are critical for increasing effectiveness, promoting longer-term retention, and most importantly, improving student achievement. In order to inform our work and ultimately improve our service to the field, the Office of Educator Effectiveness would like to hear first and second year teachers from across the state share their experiences. The information gathered from these state-wide Focus Groups will help guide strategic planning and the design of future outreach programs related to recruitment and retention.
