Know that your students are fake-reading? Seeing a lack of engagement, particularly with complex texts? Unsure of how to teach both comprehension strategies and your content? Not sure how to fit it all in? This workshop will feature comprehension strategies for students across the spectrum of reading and writing abilities for the 6-12 classroom as well as ways of facilitating a meaningful community of writers. Mini-lessons, conferring, independent reading time, and practical strategies for incorporating a workshop approach into a secondary classroom will be covered.
This workshop will be held at Hobart High School in Hobart, IN. You will enter through Door 1 and will meet in Room LC111.

Jen Wahl has taught high school English for eight years before transitioning to a role as a literacy coach and then a district director of student achievement. While in the classroom, Jen taught reading workshop for the school’s most struggling freshmen and sophomores, and she also taught AP Language and Composition as well as senior honors English, advanced composition, technical writing, as well as the electives British novels and American short stories.

*Cost of all workshops are based on membership in an Indiana ESC. Any registrants who are not members of an ESC in the state of Indiana will be required to pay the non-member fee of twice the amount of the workshop cost.

WVEC CANCELLATION POLICY:
* Registrants who notify WVEC of their cancellation on or before the registration deadline date will not be required to pay the registration fee.
* Registrants who cancel after the registration deadline but before the workshop date or call to cancel on the day of the workshop will pay 50% of the registration fee.
* Registrants who neglect to call or notify the WVEC of their cancellation will be responsible for paying the full fee.
* On official school corporation weather-related cancellation days, registrants will not be required to pay registration fees.
