Explore the beauty of native southeastern medicinal plants through field identification. Using the expansive resources of the NCBG display gardens and the Piedmont Nature Trails behind the Garden, students take in the abundant medicine that our local flora has to offer. Topics include field identification, ethical gathering and harvesting, history and lore of each plant, therapeutic and medicinal uses, and preparations.

Ricky is a certified herbalist and health & food educator. Ricky formalized her herbal medicine knowledge through study with Juliet Blankespoor at the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine Plant Immersion Program in Asheville, NC in 2009. Following that, she completed the Advanced Herbal Science program with Mimi Hernandez at the One World Healing Arts Institute, also in Asheville, in 2010.
