This course is introductory in nature and designed for a broad audience. It covers basic principles of botany including taxonomy, anatomy, morphology and physiology. Class time is divided between lectures and examining/dissecting samples. There are also opportunities for making observations in the gardens.

 

No prerequisites.

About the Instructor

Olivia Lenahan is a horticulturist and scientific editor. She received her M.S. in horticultural science from Washington State University, studying crop load dynamics of sweet cherry trees. She holds a Ph.D. from Iowa State University and focused her research on the cold hardiness of Styrax americanus (American snowbell). Currently she edits and produces publications for a peer-reviewed journal based in the Forest Biomaterials department at North Carolina State University. She has taught courses in botany, plant family taxonomy, and native plants for shade and groundcovers.
