FREE Battle Park Tour

with Nick Adams, Battle Park Manager

Learn about the history and preservation of the property now known as Battle Park on the UNC campus. We'll walk through the park in the peak of its autumn glory, covering hotspots visited and named by Kemp Plummer Battle himself as well as the philosophies behind the preservation and conservation of our natural areas. 


Please note that the hike is moderate to strenuous, depending on your abilities. Battle Park trails traverse uneven and/or steep terrain at times. You are encouraged to bring a hiking stick! For the safety of our guests, dogs are not allowed on tours.

About Your Guide

Nick Adams is the Battle Park Manager at NCBG. In addition to Battle Park, Nick manages the Coker Pinetum and the Piedmont Nature Trails. Much of his work deals primarily with invasive exotic management, trail improvement and maintenance, and restoration. Nick received his B.S. in Biology from the University of Central Arkansas in 2003, and his M.S. in Ecology from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2012. Due to his background in science and previous experience in native plant landscaping, Nick has a breadth of knowledge about native plant communities and natural areas management.
