At the start of a corporate board meeting, the chairperson invites the other directors to close their eyes and take a moment to focus on their breathing. A kindergarten teacher has students sit quietly and practice a mindfulness exercise at the start of each day. Before a Division I basketball game, players spend a few minutes focusing on their breath, then visualize themselves making perfect, effortless shots from the foul line.

Mindfulness and meditation are getting a lot of attention these days, from articles in the Harvard Business Review to studies by psychologists and neuroscientists. The basic techniques are easy to learn and practice. Join us for an introduction to meditation in a beautiful outdoor setting. We will mainly practice seated meditation with an optional short walking meditation. Whether you’re a complete beginner, or you’ve been meditating for years and enjoy practicing with a group, we’d love to see you there!

What to bring:

  • You may want a chair, cushion, beach towel, and/or blanket to sit on. There will be some chairs and a few spots on benches available.
  • You may want sunscreen, a hat, or insect repellant as the class will take place in a sunny, natural area.
  • Bring a bottle of water as our water fountains are currently blocked off.
  • Bring a mask to wear when inside or when you are unable to maintain 6 feet between you and others outdoors. We will practice 6 or more feet from each other.

Remaining Seats: 6

Registration open through 4/30/2021 12:00 PM EST

In brief, please follow these practices:

  • Before leaving home for class, check for symptoms using the COVID-19 screening checklist. Do not attend class if you are experiencing any symptom(s) indicated on the screening checklist or have knowledge of a recent exposure to someone who has tested positive. If you are not able to attend class for this reason, we will offer you a full refund as course credit or to your credit card.
  • Watch your distance and remain 6 feet apart from others.
  • Bring a mask with you. Wear a mask at all times indoors and when you are unable to maintain a 6' distance outdoors due to path widths or other unavoidable circumstances.
  • Wash your hands often.
  • Wipe off your work area before class with disinfecting wipes that will be available in the classroom.

By doing these things, you are doing your part to keep others safe both on campus and in our local communities.
