While the news about climate change can be overwhelming, there are things we can all do in our everyday lives to lessen our environmental impact. In this course, we will cover sustainable strategies that participants can implement at home to reduce their carbon footprint. We will focus on topics including reducing energy, preventing waste, and reconsidering consumption habits. This course will center on the highest impact choices individuals can make to reduce their carbon footprint. Participants will also learn about energy-reducing, cost-saving features at the North Carolina Botanical Garden with a virtual “behind the scenes” tour of some of the Garden’s sustainable features.

About the Instructor

Janna Starr is the Facilities & Events Manager and Sustainability Officer at the North Carolina Botanical Garden. In her role she manages public outreach events and rentals, oversees the buildings and facilities, and leads the Sustainability Committee. Prior to her time in Durham, Janna lived in Brooklyn and managed green events like parades and festivals for New York City. Janna received her undergraduate dual degree in History and Sociology from Duquesne University. Outside of work, Janna likes to explore new hiking trails in the Triangle and is often brainstorming content for her sustainability-focused Instagram account @wastefairy.
