Colored pencil is a next step in advancing from drawing to painting, and introduces the full array of fine art pigments. This course is a hands-on introduction to commonly used materials and techniques such as layering, blending, burnishing and tonal gradation.

This course serves as a prerequisite for Intermediate and Advanced Colored Pencil.
Note: This class involves homework assignments. The amount of time students need to spend on homework varies and usually ranges from five to fifteen hours per week.
Christiane Fashek is a botanical artist based in New York. Formerly an architect, she transferred her interest in form and structure to the study and illustration of lichens and natural ephemera. She earned her New York Botanical Garden Certificate of Botanical Art and Illustration with honors. Pencil is her preferred medium, particularly colored pencil combined with dry brush. Christiane is a member of the ASBA, the Tri-State Botanical Artists Circle and the Colored Pencil Collective. She co-founded the Central Texas Botanical Artists Circle. She is also a Society of Botanical Artists Fellow and a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America. She was awarded ASBA’s 2022 Esther Plotnick Artist Grant for “Lichens in the Limelight” bringing lichens and botanical art into classrooms.
