Advanced Expressive Watercolor
with Kate Lagaly, Professional Artist

This course reviews and builds on Intermediate Watercolor techniques. Using a live plant and/or reference photographs of their choice, students will create a small series of paintings of a native North Carolina plant.
Prerequisites: Intermediate Watercolor, Integrating Composition and Color Theory
Note: This class involves homework assignments. The amount of time students need to spend on homework varies and usually ranges from five to fifteen hours per week.
Kate Lagaly has earned Signature Artist status from the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA and CPX), the Kentucky Watercolor Society (KWS), the Southern Watercolor Society (SW), the South Carolina Watermedia Society (SCWS), the Watercolor Society of North Carolina (WSNC), and the Tennessee Watercolor Society (TnWS). Her work has been juried into The American Watercolor Society’s International Exhibition and has been a finalist in the Paint America Top 100 National Exhibition. Two pieces have been finalists in The Artist Magazine’s Annual International Competition. She works mainly in acrylic, colored pencil, gouache, pen and ink, plasticine clay, scratchboard, and watercolor. She also enjoys the creative process and sculpture in her role as the Artistic Director for Concrete Architectural Products Precast (CAPP). She has an Art Degree from Xavier University.

Advanced Watercolor (Expressive or Traditional): Credits - 1
This course fulfills an elective requirement in our Certificate in Botanical Art & Illustration program.

Before leaving home for class, check for symptoms using the COVID-19 screening checklist. Do not attend class if you are experiencing any symptom(s) indicated on the screening checklist. If you are not able to attend class for this reason, we will offer you a full refund as course credit or to your credit card.
Watch your distance and remain 6 feet apart from others.
Bring a mask with you. Wear a mask at all times indoors and when you are unable to maintain a 6' distance outdoors.
Wash your hands often.
By doing these things, you are doing your part to keep others safe both on campus and in our local communities.
