LUNCHBOX Talk: Establishing a New Species, Firelily in the Sandhills - Cancelled

With Cheryl Knepp, Environmental Senior Specialist with NC Department of Transportation, representing the Friends of Plant Conservation

The registration period has closed for this event.

Date: Thursday, June 18, 2020

Time: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM

Fee: Free, preregistration required.

Cheryl discusses her 2009 master’s thesis work (Understanding habitat and search criteria for the rare Firelily) conducted at NCSU for the Firelily, Lilium pyrophilum. All known populations of Sandhills lily in North Carolina and Virginia were studied to understand the habitat requirements of this rare species. Search criteria for finding new populations were also developed on the basis of the habitat features elucidated in this study.

We're expanding our partnership with the Friends of Plant Conservation to offer several excursions and Lunchbox Talks that highlight some of our state's rarest plants and natural areas.

This event is a partnership between the NCBG and the Friends of Plant Conservation.
