A favorite around the holidays, the pear has historically been depicted in artwork as a symbol of yuletide elegance and prosperity. Discover painting a pear in transparent watercolor. Techniques covered include color matching, wet on wet washes and detailing with drybrush. Watercolor experience is helpful. This is a non-credit course.

About the Instructor

Kathy is a professional artist with a long ongoing relationship with the Gardens involved in both the Native Plant Studies and Botanical Illustration Certification programs. Originally from Southern California she holds a Master's Degree from California State University, Fullerton in Illustration. While there she taught at CSUF as well as Community Colleges for several years in illustration and drawing and painting. Never satisfied with a single focus, Kathy has enjoyed being a Nature Educator with her knowledge from the Native Plants program and worked as an elementary school art teacher while in NC. Her professional work includes Award winning editorial illustrations for business and medical magazines. She is a current member of ASBA and works from her in-home studio near Winston-Salem with its view of Pilot Mountain surrounded by her dog and four cats.
