Hike: Spring Ephemerals on the Piedmont Nature Trails

with Nick Adams, Battle Park Manager

Take a walk through the Piedmont Nature Trails with NCBG’s Battle Park Manager, Nick Adams, in search of trout lilies, sweet Betsy’s, windflowers, and many more of the spring ephemerals that brighten the forest floor this time of year.

Please note that the hike is moderate to strenuous, depending on your abilities. The Piedmont Nature Trails traverse uneven and/or steep terrain at times. You are encouraged to bring a hiking stick! For the safety of our guests, dogs are not allowed on tours.

Meeting spot: The breezeway at the front of the James & Delight Allen Education Center.

About the Program Leader

Nick Adams is the Battle Park Manager at NCBG. In addition to Battle Park, Nick manages the Coker Pinetum and the Piedmont Nature Trails. Much of his work deals primarily with invasive exotic management, trail improvement and maintenance, and restoration. Nick received his B.S. in Biology from the University of Central Arkansas in 2003, and his M.S. in Ecology from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2012. Due to his background in science and previous experience in native plant landscaping, Nick has a breadth of knowledge about native plant communities and natural areas management.
