Foundations of Math: Teaching Students with Significant Disabilities

Day 1: August 3, 2018

Days 2-3: October 4-5, 2018

Days 4-5: November 7-8, 2018

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Two versions of Foundations of Math training are being offered. This course is designed for special educators, therapists, and related services personnel who are involved in the teaching of mathematics to students with moderate to significant disabilities, including those with complex communication needs. This includes students who receive instruction in self-contained classrooms and center-based programs, who take the alternative math assessment, and/or are learning the Common Core Essential Elements.

If you are a general or special educator responsible for teaching math to students who struggle with math, including students with disabilities, and may receive their instruction in inclusive settings or resource rooms, you may want to consider registering for Foundations of Math. Both courses cover the same content and teach the same approach to instruction.

For assistance with deciding which training is most appropriate for you, please email

Registration closes on July 19, 2018.

Dr. Chris Cain (Mars Hill University, North Carolina), co-developer of the course, is a dynamic presenter who is passionate about students with special needs and those who work with them. Dr. Cain will present a way of understanding and teaching mathematics to students with significant disabilities– that will challenge and enhance teachers' current thinking about mathematics education.
