Methodist Health System employees who provide their employee ID number on the registration form may take this course at no cost. NMC Alumni who provide graduation year and last name at graduation may take this course at no cost. NMC students can attend at no cost but do not receive CE.


Audience

We welcome all Nurses, Physical Therapists Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Social Work, Mental Health, Respiratory Therapy, and other healthcare professions interested in learning more about Understanding African Americans in Mental Healthcare Settings.


Details

This program will discuss the state of African American mental health, and the historical, cultural and religious factors affecting it. It will give insight on contemporary social determinants, which influence African American mental wellness, and discuss how to encourage patients to be receptive to mental health treatment.

 

Program Objectives:

  • Recognize the state of African American mental health and its causes

  • Evaluate how African Americans may perceive mental health providers

 

In order to receive continuing education hours for this event, you must meet the following completion requirements:

  • Attendance at the entire activity
  • Completion/submission of evaluation form

Education Credit: 1.0 Education hours. Nebraska Methodist College Division of Professional Development assigns education hours based on 60 minutes of classroom instruction for each offering. Participants may use these for their professional continuing education hours and toward re-licensure if so approved within the standards and guidelines of their discipline.
