Methodist Health System employees who provide their employee ID number on the registration form may take this course at no cost. NMC students can attend at no cost (they do not receive CE). Employees of Perinatal Outreach hospitals and Alumni receive 75% off of the program's value.


Audience

All nurses, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other healthcare professionals caring for infants in the NICU.


Details

This program will discuss potential long-term risks and outcomes of babies born prematurely, including Deleterious brain effects, Risk for Autism, Long-term Feeding Outcomes, Prematurity and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), Mental Health outcomes, Language and Learning, and Long-term Fine and Gross Motor Outcomes.

 

Program Objectives:

  • Describe how the neonatal brain develops differently in the NICU environment.
  • Define long-term risks and outcomes of the NICU experience.
  • Identify the risk for Autism.
  • Discuss long-term feeding outcomes.
  • Discuss Prematurity and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
  • Identify mental health outcomes in the premature born population.
  • Discuss language and learning outcomes in the premature born population.
  • Discuss long-term motor outcomes in the premature born population.

 

In order to receive continuing education hours for this event, you must meet the following completion requirements:

  • Attendance at the entire activity
  • Completion/submission of evaluation form within 30 days of the program
