Workshop Description

Will facilitate workshop on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and its origins, will provide information on the origins of personality disorders including environmental and genetic contributing factors, as well as characteristics and features of Borderline Personality Disorders. Will inform and provide evidence-based research on attachment disorders in children and adults which contribute to personality disorders. Will introduce historical information and origins of DBT Therapy, including Marsha Linehan and others who have contributed to the evolution of the theory and therapy. Will explain contract for DBT treatment and give sample, rules in DBT groups and reasoning behind crisis calling and individual therapy in conjunction with group therapy requirements. Will review all modules for DBT therapy including Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Distress Tolerance skills.


Attendees will learn the origins and evolution of Dialectical Behavioral therapy and the originators. Attendees will be provided thorough information on DBT modules Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Distress Tolerance skills. Attendees will learn the structure for DBT groups, using DBT in individual therapy and contracts and rules surrounding this therapy. Attendees will practice DBT using an example case study and will get feedback and discussion surrounding their approach. Attendees will receive resources to support questions and practice in the use of DBT therapy in their particular setting.
