Schools Furnishing HOPE! 2017

Hundreds of volunteers are needed June 12-23 when My Father's House re-distributes over 4000 school furniture items donated by the Blue Valley School District to schools and educational programs in the Kansas City area. Schools Furnishing HOPE! is entering its 5th year in partnership with the Blue Valley School District. During our first 4 years, the My Father's House Schools Furnishing HOPE! team distributed 18,351 pieces of school furniture to 38 educational programs and agencies in the Kansas City area. These efforts were made possible by over 800 volunteers and 8500 volunteer hours! Register now and be part of the team furnishing hope!


Event dates: June 12-16 and June 19-23
Shifts: There are two shifts daily for each position. Lunch is provided for volunteers who register for a morning and afternoon shift on the same day.
Volunteers may select from the following positions for each of his/her desired shifts.


Welcome volunteers and recipients, and direct to SFH Team Leads

Check-in volunteers and verify liability waivers
Set-up and clean-up breakfast, snacks, drinks, and lunch provided for volunteers
Physical level: Light - standing/sitting/bending


Coordinate with SFH Team Leads and volunteers to track outgoing inventory
Physical level: Light - standing/walking


Assist in moving furniture from inside school to recipient vehicles and/or from truck to warehouse

Assist in removing table and chair legs/tops for easy transport; some use of power tools
Physical level: Moderate - lift/carry minimum 25 pounds, standing/walking/bending/push/pull


To ensure proper supervision and safety for all participants, the following policy applies to all volunteers under 18.

AGES 16 AND 17
Youth 16 and 17 may participate unaccompanied at the Schools Furnishing HOPE! event if they have a liability waiver signed by the parent/guardian of the youth. Waivers may not be signed by any other person.


AGES 12-15
All youth between the ages of 12 and 15 must be accompanied by an adult and must have a liability waiver signed by the parent/guardian of the youth.
A ratio of 1 adult to every 3 youth volunteers must be maintained.
Adult sponsors must provide direct oversight for the activities of their charges at all times.
Youth must be transported to and from the site by their adult sponsor. They cannot be dropped off or wait for pick up at the site.


For safety reasons, no on under the age of 12 may participate in this event or be at the event site.

Other Important Stuff
  • All volunteers are required to wear closed-toe shoes.
  • A liability waiver is required from each volunteer at check-in.
  • School locations are subject to change if the SFH team is ahead (or behind) schedule. Volunteers will be notified of any changes by email.
