Thank you for volunteering to help at Leadership Institute 2019!
We will be hosting 3000 guests at this historic gathering aimed at helping United Methodist leaders navigate and lead through the next steps for the denomination. We can only provide the most radical hospitality with your help!

 

You can volunteer before the conference and during the conference - Listed below are the job descriptions for each of the volunteer positions. Please review the descriptions and then let us know where/when you'd like to serve by clicking on the position/time listed in the registration section - positions are listed chronologically on the registration form.


Volunteer Descriptions

 

PRE-CONFERENCE VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

ONGOING

Prayer Card Writing, cards delivered by Wednesday 9/18

Pray for our speakers prior to conference and write personal note card of thanks and encouragement for each. You will be given pertinent details about your speaker to write an appropriate note. Note cards provided.

THURSDAY 9/19

Conference Materials Stuffing: Help prepare conference materials for our guests by stuffing promotional material in guest tote bags. Walking, standing and some lifting involved

Nametag Preparation: Prepare name tags for each of our guests- we will be attaching lanyards to name badges. You may sit for this task.

MONDAY 9/23

Snack Box Preparation: Prepare in advance 3000 snack boxes for our guests. You will be able to sit down for this.

TUESDAY 9/24

Conference Set Up:
Assist with covering Sponsor tables and preparing Check In tables. Walking, standing and some lifting involved.

Hospitality Set Up:
Help with initial set up of break and lunch areas. Standing, walking and lifting required.

Prayer Team: Spend time covering the sanctuary in prayer for blessings and God's guidance for our conference guests.

CONFERENCE VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

TUESDAY EVENING 9/24- FRIDAY 9/27

Break Prep and Host: In advance of scheduled breaks, help to prepare trays and boxes with pre-packaged snacks, wash fresh fruit and deliver to the break station tables. During break, wipe off bottled/canned beverages for our guests, replenish food items as necessary, give direction about food choices. After the break, help clean up the stations. Breaks might be served outside, weather permitting. Walking, standing and light lifting required.

Cafe Volunteer: Stocking, cleaning, serving beverages, working in a cash only line with another employee. Standing Required.

Communion Server: Assist with communion during closing session on Friday. No experience necessary, you will receive training when you check in. Standing required.

Conference Materials Distribution: Hand out Name badges and Notebooks to guests at Guest Check In. No computer skills required.

Direction Host: You will be able to use a map! Help direct our guests to classrooms for workshops, to break areas, lunch areas and to restrooms. We will provide a map and workshop room list. Standing required. Great guest interaction!

Greeter: Cover outdoor entrance areas to greet and direct our guests as they arrive, giving specific directions for the day's events. Standing required.Great guest interaction!

NEW!! Sanctuary Door Greeter: Cover Sanctuary entrances to welcome guests into the sanctuary and distribute hand outs. Standing required.

Information Desk Consultant: Help our guests as needed with conference, church or area information. Information about area restaurants, activities and services will be provided as well as emergency information and pastors on call. You are able to sit to do this job. Great Guest interaction!

Lunch Host: Prior to lunch, help arrange buffet tables (if not being handled by catering staff), direct guests through serving lines, bus tables and serve beverages. Assist with tear down and clean up. Lunch might be served outside. Standing required. Great guest interaction!

Out Door Break Set Up: Wipe down outdoor seating and ready out door area for break and lunch seating. Standing and walking required.

Parking Lot Greeter: Direct guests into parking lots; assist with directing vans/buses to appropriate spots. This is a first point of contact for our guests! This is one of our most difficult positions to fill - please consider serving in this way! Standing required.

Restroom Attendant (1 male and 1 female): Check restrooms to make sure that hospitality baskets are stocked, and restock when necessary. Alert Facilities staff to anything that needs attention. Walking required.

Tear Down: Assist with un-stuffing materials, tearing down boxes, etc. at end of day. Walking and light lifting required.

Usher: Actively help guests to find seats after they have entered the sanctuary; distribute materials as needed; also tidy up your section(s) at the end of the session in preparation for the next one. Standing required.

Workshop Host: Welcome guests, hand out materials as needed and monitor room for av/tech/climate needs during workshop. You will be standing and sitting. Great guest interaction!
