Globalizing your Course Design

Do you have plans to develop and implement globally-themed content into your course? Are you interested in the International Education Week Faculty Mini-Grant? In this hands-on workshop, you will learn what is included in a globalized course design and how to implement these themes through incorporation of global content in your learning objectives, activities, and assignments.



Casey Carroll
Instructional Designer, Center for Teaching Excellence

Casey Carroll is an instructional designer with the Center for Teaching Excellence at USC. Casey works with all who teach to support the creation of innovative and accessible courses and the continued development of teaching skills. He also works with instructors teaching online to help with course design and learning technologies. In addition, he facilitates our Instructional Design Community of Practice. Prior to joining CTE, Casey designed curriculum for professional training and leadership development. He has also taught First-Year English and English as a Second Language at the University of South Carolina. Casey holds a master’s degree in linguistics from USC and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and psychology from Pacific Lutheran University. He also holds the Associate Professional in Talent Development credential from the Association for Talent Development.

Julie Medlin
Internationalization Programming Coordinator
International Student Services

Julie Medlin is currently the Internationalization Programming Coordinator in the International Student Services Office. In her role she manages the Carolina Intercultural Training, Thinking Globally and International Education Week on campus.  As facilitator of the Carolina Intercultural Training, she has led cross-cultural awareness workshops with over 1,000 USC faculty, staff, and students since 2014. Julie completed a Master's degree in Linguistics and TESOL from the University of South Carolina in 2012, and has worked in the field of International Education since 2009. She worked previously as an English as a Second Language instructor, coordinator of international visitor grants and immigration advisor for international students at USC. She enjoys learning about cultures and has traveled to 18 countries, including India, Puerto Rico, Oman, Jordan and Italy.
