Finding and selecting the right employees is vital to the success of any supervisor. This course covers the process of developing job announcements, recruitment of potential employees, legal considerations in interviewing, and documentation of the employment and selection process. Understanding the UofSC hiring process is a critical skill for supervisors. This course will address the following topics:
• Using the information in a position description to write job function statements that will clearly communicate the job requirements.
• Developing a fair and consistent interviewing process for selecting employees.
• Understanding how to differentiate between legal and illegal interview questions.
• Understanding your obligations related to documentation and maintenance of records related to interviewing.
Who Should Participate?
Prerequisite Required. This course is required for University supervisors of staff, per HR Policy 1.51. Non-Supervisors will automatically be removed from the course.

There is no charge to participate in this course. Employees should cancel their registration if they are unable to participate. Participants leaving early will not receive credit for participating. If there is an emergency, please notify the instructors.
Effective August 1, 2021: Participants in online classes for the OPD certificate programs (LEAD, Managing High Performing Teams, and Effective Communication) MUST have a working microphone on their computers or use the dial-in feature and be able to verbally participate in the sessions. OPD will require a sound check during introductions at the beginning of the session to verify your ability to participate.
