The webinar starts at 1:00 p.m. and we kindly request participants to enter the webinar at least 15 minutes prior to the start time and no later than 1:05 p.m. 


Orientation for Faculty Teaching Carolina Online Course Sections is a webinar ONLY – please do not come to the CTE office.


This presentation is designed for faculty who are scheduled to teach a Carolina Online course section in Summer or Fall 2021 by providing an overview of Carolina Online, sharing tips for teaching a Carolina Online section, and identifying support services available to faculty.


** Registration Procedures Update **

In order for attendees to personally track their current registrations and attendance at certificate of completion workshops and events, the Center for Teaching Excellence requires that all registrants create an account in our registration system and login to register for all workshops.


If you have an existing training account with the Division of Human Resources, Office of Organizational and Professional Development, you do not need to create an account. You can login using your HR training username and password. By logging in to register for CTE events, your complete training record for both CTE and HR trainings will be available with a single account and login.


Trena Houp

Trena Houp serves as the Director for the Office of Distributed Learning where she works collaboratively with and provides support to faculty and academic units to further the growth of distributed learning/online courses and programs. She also serves as Interim Director of the Office of Academic Programs and coordinates the development, revision, and termination of degree programs for the USC system and courses for UofSC Columbia.

Robert Grookett
Marketing, Media and Technology Manager
Office of Distributed Learning

Rob Grookett is the Marketing, Media, and Technology Manager for the Office of Distributed Learning. Grookett is a graduate of the University of South Carolina in Media Arts. Grookett joined the Office of Distributed Learning after spending 8 years with Media Services (DoIT).

 Jeff Soard
Course Production Manager
Office of Distributed Learning

Jeff Soard is the Course Production Manager for the Office of Distributed Learning. He provides support to and assists faculty and academic departments as they develop blended, online and/or innovative courses. Soard provides guidance during the course development and approval process and assists faculty in recording and editing lectures or other media and creating transcripts and/or closed captioning.

Casey Carroll
Instructional Designer
Center for Teaching Excellence

Casey Carroll is an instructional designer with the Center for Teaching Excellence at USC. Carroll works with all who teach to support the creation of innovative and accessible courses and the continued development of teaching skills. He also works with instructors teaching online to help with course design and learning technologies. Prior to joining CTE, Carroll designed curriculum for professional training and leadership development. He has also taught First-Year English and English as a Second Language at the University of South Carolina. Carroll holds a master’s degree in linguistics from USC and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and psychology from Pacific Lutheran University.
