The registration period has closed for this event.

The Recovery Ally Training teaches members of the Gamecock Community about substance use disorder and recovery. This training explains substance use disorder and recovery, how to identify and respond to stigmatizing language/beliefs, and how to create a campus culture that embraces recovery.

The goal of the training is to create a network of allies who promote a recovery-minded culture that is accepting, engaging, and supportive to all students in recovery from addictions to alcohol or other drugs as they pursue an enriched college experience.

  • Identify and respond to behavior and language that may be considered offensive, triggering, and exclusionary to students in recovery.
  • Increase overall awareness/understanding of the issues facing students in recovery.
  • Promote a greater sense of safety for students in the recovery community.
  • Act as a campus resource for information about recovery.
  • Describe what it means to be a part of a recovery-oriented system of care.
  • Promote oneself as an ally to students in recovery.

Margaret E. Hollifield, LISW-CP, Gamecock Recovery Coordinator
