Endodontics Non-provider Preceptorship | UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry

Accepting Applications for January 2024 Enrollment
(Six-Month Program | January 2024 through June 2024)

 

The Department of Endodontics offers a non-provider preceptorship in Endodontics. This full-time program will strengthen the preceptor's knowledge necessary for comprehensive evaluation and treatment of patients with endodontic needs. The established curriculum involves all aspects of the educational component of the Department of Endodontics: undergraduate and graduate level courses, departmental seminars, interdepartmental seminars, hands-on laboratory courses, patient presentations, classic and current literature classes and guest lecturer presentations. Research opportunities may be available to participants at the discretion of program director. This program is open to graduates of dental schools outside of the United States and Canada. 

 

Due to the demands of the full-time program, no outside activities that interfere with the program are permitted. All program participants are under the guidance of the Endodontics Preceptorship Director and the Chair of the Department of Endodontics.


About the Program

Preceptors will attend all of the classes the residents are assigned to. Program participants are expected to obtain advanced knowledge in the following areas:


  • Diagnosis and sequence appropriate treatment for patients requiring endodontic therapy
  • Oral biomaterials in endodontics
  • Pulp Biology
  • Non-Surgical and Surgical Endodontic techniques

Didactic


  • Advanced Basic Sciences
  • Endodontic Pre-clinical Technique Lectures
  • Endodontic techniques performed on extracted or 3D plastic teeth
  • Endodontic Surgery Seminars and technique exercises on 3D models
  • Topical Seminars in Endodontics
  • Current Literature Seminars


Clinical


  • Observe and assist in the graduate endodontic clinic during endodontic treatment


  • Observe and assist in the graduate endodontic clinic during endodontic surgery



Program Fees

Total Estimated Program Cost: $25,000

As the preceptorship is a non-accredited program, UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry cannot provide financial assistance toward tuition and fees.

 

Acceptance into the program does not allow for refunds of any tuition and fees. Failure to make program payments in full will result in dismissal from the program.

 


Required Documentation

Applicants are required to submit the following documentation along with the completed application:

 

  • Resumé or C.V. (in English, listing academic history, certifications, licensures, employment, and training experience)

 

  • Official copy of your dental school diploma (with English translations, if applicable)

 

 

  • Two letters of recommendation from dental professionals

 

  • A copy of your TOEFL or IELTS scores (required for non-U.S. Citizens/Permanent Residents)

 

  • A copy of your Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE) score (Not required for Periodontics and Prosthodontics preceptorships)

 

  • Health records completed by a health care provider (with English translations, if applicable):

 

  • A copy of your current CPR certification (front and back of card)

 

  • A copy of photo identification:
    • For U.S. Citizens: Copy of your federal or state-issued photo identification
    • For U.S. Permanent Residents: Copy of your Permanent Resident Card
    • For Non-U.S. Citizens/Permanent Residents: Copy of your passport identification page, visa stamp and I-94 (if applicable)

Application Fees and Deadlines

Application Fee:

  • U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident: $500.00
  • Non-U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident: $750.00

  • Application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable
  • Payment is required to begin processing your application
  • Payments will be collected online (Visa, MasterCard, AMEX)
  • If you wish to pay by check or money order, please make payable to UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry, PACE Center, and include with your mailed application.

 

Application deadline for January 2024 entry: August 1, 2023

 

Late applications will be accepted until August 30, 2023 with a $250 late fee.


Disclaimers

Acceptance into a UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry dental preceptorship does not guarantee acceptance into any of our graduate residency programs. Individuals interested in graduate residency programs must apply through standard procedures.

 

Our dental preceptorships do not award academic credit. Participants will receive a letter of completion upon completing the program.

Non-U.S. Citizen Information

If you are a Non-U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident applicant, we will work with our Office of International Affairs to assist with the appropriate documentation needed for you to enter the U.S. to participate in the program.

 

The process can take between 8 - 12 weeks and must be completed before you enter the U.S. Please be aware that the Office of International Affairs will require you to submit documents of financial support in order to process a visa.
