AYD is a widely recognized certificate program designed for frontline staff of after school, community school programs and youth service agency staff. AYD is part of a national training developed by the National Training Institute for Community Youth Work (NTI), at the Academy for Educational Development (AED). This training is based on the principle that every youth worker’s goal should be to develop youth and to challenge them to achieve their highest potential – not to fix them. It provides the theory, practice and outcomes of quality youth development projects.
AYD 4: Cultural Assumptions and Youth Participation
Cultural Assumptions: Youth workers identify the barriers that adults bring to their work with youth and identify alternative caring behaviors. Youth Participation: Youth workers discuss the practices and policies of meaningful youth participation and ways to promote them in their programs. Training includes presentation and group activities on:
**The complete AYD certification training is broken up into five, 1.5-hour sessions with 1.5 hours of independent work following each session. If participants attend all five sessions and complete the independent work, they will receive an AYD certification after completion.
If you are seeking the AYD certification, participants must have attended 'AYD-1: Introduction to the Youth Development Approach' prior to participating in any of the subsequent AYD workshops. AYD workshops 2-5 may be attended in any order.
If you are not seeking an AYD certification, each session will be a stand-alone training and participants can choose to attend any of the workshops in the series.**

If a participant does not attend a training for which they have registered, or does not to notify the Family League of their inability to attend within 48 hours of the scheduled training, the organization will be invoiced a “missed session” fee of $50.00. Organizations will only be charged in the event of a “missed session” by an employee. If an agency fails to pay the missed session fee, their staff will no longer be able to access training offered by Family League of Baltimore. The 48 hour requirement does exclude extenuating circumstances such as a death in the family, serious medical emergency, programmatic emergency that would require the attendance of the registered individual, etc.
Our goal is to continue to maximize the professional development opportunities for our funded partners, while reducing the large number of no show attendees we have experienced over the last year.
