Jaw dysfunction hurts. It diminishes quality of life and prevents comprehensive health care from taking place until the pain can be managed. Patients suffering with jaw based symptoms can benefit from the talents, skills and techniques provided by both physical therapists and dental professionals. This course is intended to share information between both types of providers and encourage each to consider ways to collaborate on care for the benefit of those in pain. For this to occur we all need to know more about each other so the interactions can happen. Dentists and physical therapists are invited to attend and hear a dentist and a physical therapist discuss jaw dysfunction patients.
At the conclusion of this course the participant should be able to:
- Increase dentist's knowledge of what physical therapists do to care for skeletal muscle issues.
- Increase physical therapist's knowledge of what dental professionals do to care for TMD.
- Explain referral protocol between offices.
- Encourage interaction/integration between physical therapists and dental professionals.
