CEUs: 2.0 (RID approved Professional Studies)
Limited to 30 participants
Sign Language interpreters make crucial decisions all the time. We are in the business of facilitating the most personal and private communications. Using the RID/NAD Code of Professional conduct, as a guide, we navigate through some of the most difficult judgment calls. “The Code: an analytical approach” is a five-week course involving video lectures and activities you do in your own home or work space. This course will assist you in defining your own ethics and how you would respond to specific scenarios. If you are looking for the magic formula of what you should or should not do, this is not the course for you. This course is about teaching us how to fish rather than just throwing us a fish.
We are offering 2.0 CEUs to each person that completes the five-week course. At the end of the course, participants will have a clearer understanding of Value Systems and what role they play in making value judgments in the context of the Code of Professional Conduct. Using the information learned in this course, it is hoped, each participant will be able to ascertain which interpreting assignments or situations can be embraced and those that should be avoided.
Here is how it works. Beginning Monday, May 15, the instructor, David Hylan, MS, CI/CT will post a weekly video lecture for you to watch. At the end of the lecture you will be given activities to complete and topics to address. You will post your responses to the activities and topics in the discussion boards so your fellow students and the instructor can provide you feedback. You are expected to make one original post and respond to at least two posts from your peers on the message board for each topic.
The last day to register is May 11 at midnight (EST). This class will be limited to the first 30 people that register.
REFUND POLICY: No refunds will be given. If for some reason, the class is cancelled, you will be given credit equal to the amount that you paid at registration to use toward another class or webcast.
