Exploring Middle School Science - 3 Dimensional Learning & the New NYC P-8 Science Scope & Sequence (Lower Manhattan)

The Department of STEM is committed to enhancing teachers’ content knowledge and pedagogy by inviting educators across New York City to participate in the Middle School Science Professional Learning Institute.
The New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS) bring new and exciting experiences for all students. Three-dimensional learning was designed having students in mind, so they become young scientists, engaged in learning about STEM. Participants will be introduced to the NEW New York City P-8 Science Scope and Sequence, developing a deeper conceptual understanding of three-dimensional learning as the way to achieve performance expectations. They will experience what three-dimensional learning looks like in the classroom, and observe implementation of methods of teaching Science that enhance student engagement and deepen student understanding. Participants will explore units at their grade level and will begin adapting activities or investigations for three-dimensional instruction.
Please note that the institute is provide at a cost with regard the number of participants. Failure to attend without cancelling our invitation to participate is a missed opportunity for a colleague on the waitlist to attend this event. It also impacts our ability to offer professional learning opportunities in the future.
Target Audience: This workshop is intended for educators seeking strategies and resources intended to support middle school learners in the science classrooms.
Registration Note: This professional learning opportunity occurs over four school days. Registrants should plan to attend all sessions as the content will build over the course of the series.
