Research-Based Reading Comprehension Instruction? How Do You Do It? Grades 4-8

Reading comprehension can be defined simply: Word Recognition + Language Comprehension = Reading Comprehension. This session will provide participants with specific and practical tools to improve students’ language comprehension through reading. It will also include connections to theories and data about reading comprehension processes and specific strategies for supporting students with serious reading comprehension difficulty.

Topics include:
(1) how to select texts that best support comprehension,
(2) high-efficiency ways to prepare students to read texts,
(3) high-value strategies to maintain and enhance students’ comprehension as they read.

Target Audience: School-Based Staff, Borough Field Support Center Staff, Central Staff, and Superintendents.
