9:00 AM - 2:30 PM
Grades 1-8: Renowned educator and literacy expert, Jennifer Serravallo will spend the morning working with teachers on reading comprehension instruction. She'll narrow the distance between assessment and instruction by mapping the four fiction and nonfiction comprehension goals she presents in The Reading Strategies Book to fourteen text levels and share sample responses that show what to expect from readers at each. The day will conclude with popular children's author, Carmen Agra Deedy who has written such brilliant works as The Yellow Star, Martina the Beautiful Cockroach, The Rooster Who Would Not Be Quiet, and many more. Strategies taught in this session can support students in meeting the expectations of the Next Generation ELA Standards and support the ILF.
