Chancellor’s Conference: Designing Instruction to Challenge Students

Join us for the Chancellor's Conference: Designing Instruction to Challenge Students on January 31.

The conference will take place from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Registration will begin at 8:00 AM.

The morning program will include remarks by Chancellor Carmen Fariña and a keynote from Dr. Sally Reis from the University of Connecticut. Participants will attend a breakout session where they will explore ways to design instruction that engages and challenges students, and attend a “School Share Fair,” where schools will present their own effective practices for ways to challenge students. The practices presented in these sessions will address:


  • Students who finish assignments early
  • Students who come with extensive background knowledge in a topic
  • Students who demonstrate mastery in grade-level skills
  • Practices that encourage inquiry and exploration
  • Ideas for independent and/or small group interest-driven learning
  • School-wide strategies and considerations (for Principals and Assistant Principals)
