Six weeks of online units and onsite lab demonstration and supervised competency check-offs.
This course is designed specifically for occupational therapy practitioners to the standards outlined in Kentucky Administration Regulation 201KAR28:170. The course will cover therapeutic ultrasound, electrical stimulation, muscle re-education, TENS, Iontophoresis, wound healing/pain theory and edema control.

Details & Schedule

36 Contact Hours – Approved by the Kentucky Board of Licensure of Occupational Therapy (KBLOT)

Online Course Units of Study (28hrs.)

  • Principles of physics related to specific properties of light, Water, temperature, sound, and electricity (3hrs.)

  • Physiological, neurophysiological, and electrophysiological changes which occur as a result of DPAM use (3hrs.)

  • Theory and Principles of the utilization of DPAM agents including guidelines for treatment or administration of agents within the physiological framework of occupational therapy (2hrs.)

  • Rationale and application of the use of DPAMs (3hrs.)

  • The physical concepts of ion movement within the human body (2hrs.)

  • Critical thinking and decision making regarding the indication and contraindications in the use of DPAMs (3hrs.)

  • Benefits of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (3hrs.)

  • Benefits of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (3hrs.)

  • Benefits of Ultrasound (3hrs.)

  • Benefits of Iontophoresis (3hrs.)

On-site Lab Demonstration, Competency Check-Offs (8hrs.)

Upon successful completion and five supervised clinical deep physical agent modality treatments, the therapist is eligible to apply for DPAM Specialty Certification by (KBLOT).
