Prospective students of Spalding University’s low-residency Master of Fine Arts in Writing program are invited to experience a half day of the residency at an open house 12:45-6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 28. Open House visitors assemble at 12:45 p.m. in the Mansion Complex West (851 S. Fourth St., 40203) for sessions that include a lecture on the craft of writing by an MFA in Writing faculty member and a faculty-led workshop discussion of MFA students’ creative writing. A reception following these sessions gives visitors the opportunity to speak with faculty, alumni, and staff of the top-10-ranked creative writing program.
After the reception, visitors are invited to go with MFAers to the Brown Hotel (335 W. Broadway) to attend a presentation by Distinguished Writer in Residence Kwame Alexander, author of The Crossover, winner of the 2015 Newbery Medal, which recognizes the “most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.” The day’s events end at 6:30 p.m.
The Open House, which takes place during the MFA program’s spring residency, is free, but reservations are required. To reserve your spot, register using the above link by Monday, May 22.
