Fresno Alumni Chapter Gathering and CE

Please join Dean Nadershahi, Alumni President Dr. Alan Budenz, and Associate Dean Craig Yarborough next Thursday, January 21, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The first half-hour will be social with remarks from the dean and catching up among participants.  A one-hour lecture will follow from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., “Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine: Inaugurating a Paradigm Shift at Dugoni” by Class of 2014 alumnus Dr. Jesse Manton. This presentation should be of great interest to all; registered Alumni Association members will receive 1 CEU.

Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine: Inaugurating a Paradigm Shift at Dugoni. This program will introduce the audience to some of the innovative programs that are being developed at the Dugoni School in the fields of oral surgery, anesthesiology, perioperative and emergency medicine and clinical simulation education. Participants will be introduced to best practices in evaluating and initiating management of the acutely ill patient in a dental practice, through which a differential diagnosis can be formulated and narrowed.

 

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants.

 

You Will Learn

  • Understand the importance of pre-hospital emergency medicine (PHEM) and its systems of care for the management of the acutely ill patient in the dental office.

  • Know the signs and symptoms of a patient requiring urgent or emergency medical care Know how to use a systematic approach to initiate evaluation and management of an acutely ill patient.

  • Understand the importance of teamwork, leadership and followership, delegation of roles and use of frequent clinical simulation sessions for office preparedness.

Presenters

Dr. Jesse W. Manton '14 grew up in both Southern and Northern California, split between Orange County and Sonoma Country, respectively. He received a B.S. in business administration: general management from California State University Sacramento (CSUS) in 2008 and continued on to study biochemistry as a post-baccalaureate graduate student at CSUS and Sonoma State University until 2011 when he matriculated dental school. He completed his D.D.S. at University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in 2014 and went on to complete a General Practice Residency at VA Palo Alto Health Care System and Stanford Hospital in the year to follow. Dr. Manton's career took a unique turn when he decided that he would become an anesthesiologist, and he began a post-graduate fellowship in the Advanced Clinical Simulations Fellowship through the Anesthesiology Department at University of California and VA San Francisco Medical Centers while preparing for anesthesia residency. He volunteered as a hospital dentist with Stanford and University of the Pacific during his fellowship and match to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for his Dental/Maxillofacial Anesthesiology residency in Columbus, OH. He accepted a position as a faculty Dentist Anesthesiologist at Ohio State in the year following his residency, enjoying a practice in Head & Neck Anesthesiology for pediatric dental, maxillofacial, special needs, ENT, oncologic, facial plastics and ophthalmologic surgeons. He enjoyed being an instructor in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and teaching Ohio State medical students, dental students, physician and dentist residents in the fields of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine until 2020. He currently holds the title of assistant professor in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of the Pacific.
