Current Trends and New Beginnings for Retaining Restorations on Dental Implants: Afternoon Workshop

Practitioners are constantly faced with how best to retain their implant restorations. This Hands On Workshop will review the fundamentals of both screw retention and cement retention. Discussions on which may be better in different circumstances and why will be shown. Participants will have an opportunity to both cement, and clean up after, as well as torque down a restoration using a torque driver. Participants will also get a hands on opportunity to use a new memory metal nitrile sleeve to retain restorations, a screw-less and cement-less option. Models will be used to demonstrate the various options and an intra-oral induction unit will also be available for participants to use for the memory metal sleeves. Participants are required to bring their dental loupes, restorative kit, and mixing instruments.

Curtis Jansen, DDS graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) School of Dentistry in 1986 where he also received his certificate in Advanced Education in Prosthodontics in 1988. In 1989 he accepted a full time teaching position at USC in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and was named Director of Implant Dentistry. In 1992 Dr. Jansen moved to Florida to practice and work with a dental implant manufacturer. Dr. Jansen has an extensive past involving research and design in implant dentistry with a number of patents for implant restorative components being used by major manufactures.

In 1996 Dr. Jansen moved to Monterey California and began his private Prosthodontic practice. Dr. Jansen has been involved with corporate Dentistry, owning a dental implant specialty practice. After 32 years Dr. Jansen continues the grind of private practice and to lecture to groups of dental specialists, dental associations and study clubs.

Irma Perez received her RDA in 1995 and RDAEF from University of California Los Angeles in 1996. She also received her Certificate of Completion in Dental Laboratory Technology from Merced College in 1994. She has been with Dr. Jansen for the past nineteen years. Her concentration in the practice is in restorative dentistry where she has spent a considerable amount of time training with numerous implant systems, AO4 conversions (same day implant bridges), “crowns in a day” and crown and bridge CAD/ CAM design. Her CDD, Chairside Dental Designer makes her an expert scanning chairside and designing restorations. Currently, as a Clinical Integration Specialist, she assists dental practices with integrating the intra-oral scanning and CAD/CAM systems into their practices. She is an active board member of the Dental Assistant ROP Program in Salinas.
