This one-day hands-on course is divided into two portions. The lecture portion will discuss the indications, contraindications and tooth preparation designs for all-ceramics and veneers. The technique portion provides hands-on practice in four different veneer preparations and one anterior all-ceramic preparation on dentoform teeth. Participants will receive (1) a detail color step-by-step preparation guide for all-ceramic and veneer, (2) a Brasseler all-ceramic and veneer preparation bur kit, (3) one set of 3D printed model with removable ideal tooth preparation dies which you can bring home as office demonstration model.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Be familiar with various new restorative materials available for all-ceramics and veneers.
2. Understand the applications and techniques for all-ceramics and veneers.
3. Understand correct tooth preparation design for different types of all-ceramics and veneers.
Other important information for participants:
1. The hands-on exercises will be in the state-of-the-art precliniucal laboratory at School of Dentistry
2. Each participating dentist should bring following instruments for the hands-on course:
· One 4-hole high speed handpiece,
· One set of basic kit (mouth mirror, cotton plier, & explorer),
· Personal dental magnifier glasses or optical loupes

Dr. Perng-Ru Liu is a 1985 graduate of Chung-Shan Medical University, Taiwan. He received his Prosthodontic Certificate (1991), MS Degree (1992) and DMD Degree (1999) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Dentistry. Currently, he is Professor and Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs at UAB School of Dentistry where he also served as Chair of the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry (2000 to 2009), Chair of the Department of Prosthodontics (2009 to 2012) and Chair of the Department of Restorative Sciences (2012-2019). In September, 2014, he was named the inaugural holder of the Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting Endowed Professorship in Comprehensive Dentistry.
Dr. Liu has been very actively involved in several grant supported clinical dental implant research projects at the UAB School of Dentistry. His research interests have been focused on clinical research of the restorative phases of several dental implant systems and in·vivo evaluations of the various esthetic restorative systems. Dr. Liu is a member of the American Dental Association, the International Association for Dental Research, the American College of Prosthodontists and Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Honorary Dental Fraternity. He is a fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. Dr. Liu has published numerous scientific abstracts and articles in refereed journals. He has also lectured nationally and internationally on computer generated ceramic restorations, esthetic dentistry, and implant dentistry. Dr. Liu was the recipient of the 1997 and 2005 UAB President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, the highest university-wide honor for teaching excellence, in the School of Dentistry.
