Things You May Not Learn in Dental School - Prosthodontic Treatments in Unique Circumstances

Course Description:

You don't know what you don't know. This unique course is designed to provide clinicians with comprehensive information related to various unusual dental treatments during the speaker's 32 years of dental experience. Participants will enjoy “think outside of the box” creativity in treating unique dental conditions below:

1. How to successfully connect natural tooth to dental implant

2. Effective design for cantilever fixed dental prosthesis

3. Predictable techniques to repair fixed restorations with veneers and overlay pontic

4. How liable is the Zirconia resin-bonded bridge?

5. How to provisionalize implant in different stages of the treatment

6. The strategies to manage implant prosthetic complications

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will have better understanding of:

1. Proper diagnosis of challenging dental patient treatments

2. The knowledge of managing unique dental treatments that are discussed in the lecture.

Dr. Perng-Ru Liu is a 1985 graduate of Chung-Shan Medical University, Taiwan. He received his Prosthodontic Certificate (1991), MS Degree (1992) and DMD Degree (1999) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Dentistry. Currently, he is Professor and Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs at UAB School of Dentistry where he also served as Chair of the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry (2000 to 2009), Chair of the Department of Prosthodontics (2009 to 2012) and Chair of the Department of Restorative Sciences (2012-2019). In September, 2014, he was named the inaugural holder of the Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting Endowed Professorship in Comprehensive Dentistry.

Dr. Liu has been very actively involved in several grant supported clinical dental implant research projects at the UAB School of Dentistry. His research interests have been focused on clinical research of the restorative phases of several dental implant systems and in·vivo evaluations of the various esthetic restorative systems. Dr. Liu is a member of the American Dental Association, the International Association for Dental Research, the American College of Prosthodontists and Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Honorary Dental Fraternity. He is a fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. Dr. Liu has published numerous scientific abstracts and articles in refereed journals. He has also lectured nationally and internationally on computer generated ceramic restorations, esthetic dentistry, and implant dentistry. Dr. Liu was the recipient of the 1997 and 2005 UAB President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, the highest university-wide honor for teaching excellence, in the School of Dentistry.
