Students will work with acrylic paint in this introductory landscape workshop. Using a combination of photographic references and imagination, students will develop the essential techniques for building expressive landscapes. Traditional and contemporary painting techniques will be demonstrated along with personal, one-on-one instruction and idea development. No experience is necessary and all levels are welcome to join this workshop.
Colin McGuire is a painter and gallery owner from Provincetown, Massachusetts. He received his MFA from Lesley University College of Art and Design in Cambridge, and BFA from Montserrat College of Art. McGuire is represented by Harmon Gallery in Wellfleet, MA, Gallery Galleon in Vieques, PR, and McGuire Gallery in Provincetown, MA. Recent exhibitions include Galatea Fine Art in Boston and Provincetown Art Association and Museum.
McGuire's paintings question what it means to be an American, and a human, in the modern world. His work develops from the narrative of early colonization which, in many ways, began on the shores of his hometown and painting muse, Provincetown. People wander, search, migrate, or gather in camaraderie against a void landscape. McGuire ponders: How can the issues we face today be reflected upon by examining the very foundation our civilization is built on? What does it mean to start anew, and at what cost is that possible?
