Once your group code is established, the email address/name used at registration for this event is the person at your group who will distribute the Group Code to the intended users for each member in your group.

SWCDC professional development staff are available to assist course participants and answer questions. For those staff taking on-demand courses, widgets in the course software provide easy access to instructor support should someone need help.
SWCDC continually works to meet the professional development needs of our early childhood educators. When we receive feedback or requests, we consider those when developing new course content.
You may pay with a Purchase Order and receive an invoice for group memberships. Please contact Karen Darby darby.karen@swcdcinc.org or 828-226-0047 to create a Purchase Order for your group membership.
Once SWCDC receives payment, the organizer will receive their group membership code within 3 working days of the payment being received.

Karen Darby is the Early Learning MultiMedia Manager at Southwestern Child Development Commission, Inc. Creating and delivering continuing education learning events are a part of her duties. Karen maintains assists participants with registration, assists instructors with course creations and reviews courses for accuracy and alignment policy. Karen is an elected member of the North Carolina Center for Afterschool Programs Board of Advisors and Karen also currently serves on the Bylaws Polcies and Procedures Commitee for IACET (the International Association for Continuing Education and Training) and PBS Teachers Advisory Group, and CLASS Advisory Panel.. She is a past member of the Distance Education Taskforce and Badging Committe for IACET, to help create a distance learning resource guide to help clarify each of the IACET standards as well determine how each Continuing Education/Training standard applies in the world of distance learning. Karen has also also served on the Program Committee of EdMedia 2017 - World Conference on Educational Media & Technology for AACE (Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education) as a reviewer of conference papers.
Karen holds a Bachelors in Elementary Education from West Virginia University, a Masters Degree in Liberal Arts from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a MicroMasters degree in Instructional Design and Technology from the University of Maryland.
She holds a Level 12 Early Educator Certificate in both the Early Care and School Age Fields with endorsements in Professional Development, Technical Assistance, and Administration.
Before becoming the Early Learning MultiMedia Manager at SWCDC, Karen was the School Age Education Specialist. Karen has also served as the Board President for the North Carolina Afterschool Coalition and worked as the Regional School Age Specialist for Region 7 providing technical assistance and training to afterschool professionals.
Karen has been employed with Southwestern Child Development Commission, Inc. since August of 2011. Karen’s work experience also includes More at Four Teacher with Gaston County Schools, Technical Assistant with the Partnership for Children of Lincoln/Gaston Counties, Adjunct Instructor at Gaston College in Gaston County, Director at Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian Church Child Care Center, and lead teacher at Ashford Academy.

Operating since 1972, Southwestern Child Development Commission supports early childhood education through multiple systems including operating as a direct early education provider, regional and state level Child Care Resource & Referral services, child care subsidy eligibility services for low income families in 11 NC counties, family support services and activities, and involvement/engagement in statewide and national early childhood committees and initiatives.
All SWCDC self-paced courses are accessible from any electronic device that is connected to the internet, such as a smart phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer.
*Dial-Up internet connections will result in a diminished online experience. Classroom pages may load slowly and viewing large audio and video files may not be possible.
Technology needs:
Live 'virtual' events may use Zoom or GoToMeeting or another live learning event software. Details for each will be given in the course description and with the information sent by the instructor of the course.
