This is a 2 part online course, instructor led.
You must attend both sessions at the designated dates and times in order to receive credit for attending.
You must submit all course assignments as indicated by the instructor and complete all coursework by the due date in order to receive the course certificate.
A post knowledge assessment is also required with a passing score of 90% or higher.
BSAC (Basic School Age Care)
BSAC (Basic School Age Care) is a 5 hour introductory level training event for school age care professionals that are new to the field. The training includes the following modules: 1) Health, Safety, & Nutrition, 2) Environmental Design, 3) Child/Youth Development 4) Developmentally Appropriate Activities, 5) Guiding Child Behavior, and 6) Quality School Age Care. This training is required by the NC Division of Child Development for school age care professionals working in licensed programs but is a great training for new staff in any afterschool program setting.
Participants in the online BSAC will be required to complete 2 hours of pre/post work assignments, participate in 3 hours of online coursework and pass a post knowledge assessment with a score of 90% or higher. After successful completion of all course requirements, participants will be notified by email that they have completed the course and received the course certificate.
Participants will engage in interactive activities throughout the event that reinforce health and safety practices, create and promote learning environments that meet all children's developmental needs, foster positive behavior and identify quality elements of school age care.

Angela Pate is the School Age Technical Assistance Consultant and Trainer for the eastern region of North Carolina. She earned her bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Mount Olive and has worked in the early education field for over 10 years. Prior to working with the School Age Initiative, she served as a lead teacher and assistant administrator in a licensed facility, as well as a Programs Specialist and School Age Specialist providing technical assistance and professional development to early educators throughout Eastern North Carolina.
Angela and her husband have 7 children and 6 grandchildren and spend their non-working hours caring for and having fun with them. One of their favorite activities to do as a family is camping, which they try to do as often as possible, especially near water. Angela's passion is mentoring early educators and is delighted to be working alongside the school age workforce to support everyone in improving the quality of care and experiences for school age children
Erin Marley is the School Age Education Specialist for the School Age Quality Improvement Project for CCR&R in North Carolina.
The overall goal of this program is to improve the quality and increase the availability of licensed school age child care services in North Carolina.
Erin has been fortunate to work with children and families across a variety of settings in Western North Carolina for the past fifteen years. She graduated with honors from Western Carolina University in 2009 with a degree in Special Education. Erin’s diverse
experiences within the early childhood and education field aligns perfectly with what the School Age Project plans to offer afterschool
providers across our state.
Erin enjoys working with early childhood professionals, and is very excited about the potential to reach and
encourage others as she grows professionally from new challenges. In her free time, Erin enjoys exploring the outdoors with her family, gardening, reading, cooking, and yoga.
