This is a 2 part online course, instructor led.
You must attend both sessions at the designated dates and times in order to receive credit for attending.
You must submit all course assignments as indicated by the instructor and complete all coursework by the due date in order to receive the course certificate.
A post knowledge assessment is also required with a passing score of 90% or higher.
BSAC (Basic School Age Care)
BSAC (Basic School Age Care) is a 5 hour introductory level training event for school age care professionals that are new to the field. The training includes the following modules: 1) Health, Safety, & Nutrition, 2) Environmental Design, 3) Child/Youth Development 4) Developmentally Appropriate Activities, 5) Guiding Child Behavior, and 6) Quality School Age Care. This training is required by the NC Division of Child Development for school age care professionals working in licensed programs but is a great training for new staff in any afterschool program setting.
Participants in the online BSAC will be required to complete 1 hour of pre/post work assignments, participate in 4 hours of online coursework and pass a post knowledge assessment with a score of 90% or higher.
After successful completion of all course requirements, participants will be notified by email that they have completed the course and received the course certificate.
Participants will engage in interactive activities throughout the event that reinforce health and safety practices, create and promote learning environments that meet all children's developmental needs, foster positive behavior and identify quality elements of school age care.

Jonathan Williams is the School Age Program Coordinator at Southwestern Child Development Commission. He works in collaboration with statewide partners on the delivery of quality school age care in the state along with creating and delivering professional development for school-age facilities and technical assistance providers. Jonathan received his undergraduate degree from Montreat College in Asheville NC. He received his Master’s in Arts Degree from Western Carolina University in 2013. He holds his Professional Development and Technical Assistance Endorsement, and is has a Level 12 ECEEE and SA certification with the NCICDP.
Jonathan has worked in early education for 15 years in a variety of roles. Prior to joining the SWCDC team, he was a lead teacher for 10 years and a center director for over two years. He has extensive R&R knowledge and has worked as a local partnership CCR&R Director. He has created and led trainings for a number of education organizations including the Association for Constructive Teachers and the North Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children.
