This Michigan Department of Health and Human Services-approved course, taught by professionals in the emergency care field, will provide fundamental working knowledge for an entry-level position as a basic EMT.

 

Topics covered include:

  • Medical-legal issues
  • Basic anatomy
  • Patient assessment
  • Basic life support
  • Vehicle extrication
  • Pre-hospital care of medical and trauma emergencies

 

A minimum of 48 hours of clinical/observation time is required in addition to the scheduled class time. During clinical experiences students may be exposed to hazardous materials, communicable disease, lifting and moving of patients and more.

 

Saturday sessions are required as determined by the instructor in the course schedule.

Persons successfully completing this course will be eligible for the National Registry of EMT examination.

 

Total course hours = 305 (257 classroom/online and 48 clinical).

 

This course exceeds requirements set forth by MDDHS. This course is taught according to the 2009 National Education Standards. This will be a blended class and the online components are required for this course. This course also contains a VFIS driver training portion with certificate.

 

Admission is on a first come, first serve basis. MREMSE reserves the right to alter course offerings based on need/demand. Maximum enrollment for this course is 24 students. If less than 10 students register, MREMSE reserves the right to cancel the course.

 


Course Dates & Times

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm and some Saturdays (TBA).

 

Beginning October 1, 2019 through March 26, 2020

 


Tuition

Total Cost: $1,650.00. Price includes textbooks and uniforms.

 

Deposit: $250 non-refundable deposit MUST accompany online registration.

 

Payment in full is due no later than first night of class unless prior arrangements are made. (Agency billing arrangements must be made with the Program Director).

 

Munson Regional EMS Education does not provide any financial assistance for this course.

Prerequisite

Must be completed before the first night of class:

  1. You must obtain CPR certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS). If you have current certification it must not expire before the end of the EMT course.
  2. Proof of Hepatitis B vaccination (or in process of receiving the vaccination) or signed declination form.
  3. Proof of MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) immunization.
  4. Proof of Varicella Vaccine or have had the chicken pox.
  5. Proof of Polio Vaccine.
  6. Proof of Tetanus with the past 10 years.
  7. TB skin test or chest x-ray in the past year.
  8. Proof of current Influenza vaccination.
  9. Professional liability insurance (obtained from agency sponsor or commercial insurance company(www.HPSO.com)).
  10. High school diploma or GED.
  11. MI ICHAT report found at https://apps.michigan.gov/.
