HILIA Presents: Behavioural and Educational Best Practices for Students with Mental Health Disabilities

Up to one in four children struggling with anxiety in this country, overwhelmed adults are in need of a new approach as well as an effective and east-to-implement toolkit of strategies that work. Through the use of case studies, humorous stories, and examples of common challenging situation, participants will learn easy to implement preventative tools, strategies, and interventions for reducing anxiety, increasing self-regulation, accurate thinking, and self-monitoring.

Learner Objectives:
• Participants will be able to list common antecedents for students with anxiety.
• Participants will be able to enumerate strategies to promote initiation, persistence, and help-seeking skills, in students with work avoidance.
• Participants will be able to identify why common teacher practices and interventions may not always work for students with anxiety-related behavior.
• Participants will be able to describe classroom friendly self-monitoring strategies.
• Participants will be able to list strategies for reducing negative thinking toward writing.

Target Audience: This session is designed for Educators, SLPs, OTs, AT Specialists, Administrators and Parents.

Lunch will be on your own, snacks provided by ROE #17.

Registration for this event is free for educators, community service providers, and parents associated with HILIA schools and partner organizations – District #87, Unit 5, all member schools of Tri-County Special Education Association, all member schools of Livingston County Special Services Unit, Illinois State University, Regional Office of Education #17, and The Baby Fold. Community service providers and parents are asked to register as members of the school district in which they reside or work.

Registration fee of $25 for all other registrants. Please send payment of $25 per person to the Heart of Illinois Low Incidence Association in care of ROE #17, 200 W. Front Street, Suite 500 D, Bloomington, IL 61701. A service fee will be billed to all who register but do not attend.
